To start -- I tie in a circle 44 or more (even number) size 11/0 seed beads. A note about sizing - I generally wear my ring on whatever finger it fits.
44- 46 11/0 seed beads fits my right middle finger -- whatever that size is. To give you a general idea - I am 5ft 4in tall and can hide behind a
telephone pole. The beginning circle will get a little smaller when finished. So try the circle on one of your fingers and plan on it being slightly smaller.
I do seven or eight total rows of peyote stitch. I prefer Nymo size B and use a size 12 needle. I also like to use about 4 yards of thread but I tie my circle in the middle of the thread - so there is a 2 yard tail -- to be used when I need new thread.
After the initial 7or 8 rows of peyote -build up the front (about 1/5 to 1/4) of the circumference with some additional rows on both sides. This gives you some area to put on the embellishment. Sew on some flower beads and or other interesting beads - this ring has three flower beads on one 6mm druk (round bead). Be sure to reinforce as many times as possible - and don't use any fragile beads. Rings can get some hard knocks!!!!
Then add branched fringes. This ring has six branches fringe in various lengths -- the longest is 21 beads -the shortest is 11 beads. How I make branched fringe with leaves:
String on the beads for the stem --21 -- the add six beads for leaf -- different colors-- #6 bead is the turn around bead - go back thru bead #5 -- add three new beads and go back thru bead #1 AND some of the stem beads ( just a few) PULL thread tight before making other branches. For second leaf - add a few branch beads then the six beads - then go back thru #5 - add 3 new beads - go thru #1 and the branch beads AND down the main branch a few more beads. Then make your third leaf. etc etc etc until you get to the ring base. You can experiment with different color combinations and also bead sizes. Try added a 3 or 4mm bead for bead #1 of the leaf. Also try using 14/0 beads for smaller leaves. You can also make branches off of the other branches. Yes this can get totally out of control!!!!!!!
As I said - rings do get a lot of wear and tear -- SOOOOO you should
re-inforce all of the branches. I do!!! I don't like to work with double
thread or size D or Silimide. But these are options (not necessarily recommendations). After I reinforce the branches I reinforce the peyote ring.
Then the best part - flaunting it on my finger!!!!
Gotta bead now
